What is Dysport?
Dr. Ben Schultz, ABPS Certified, offers women and men numerous nonsurgical options for skin rejuvenation. Dysport is an injectable wrinkle treatment that works similarly to BOTOX® to soften and reduce dynamic lines and wrinkles throughout the face. Dynamic wrinkles are caused by repeated facial movements and expressions (like smiling, laughing, and frowning) that, over time, make the muscles of the face tight. This causes the skin over the muscle to have an etched line that can be seen even when your face is relaxed. Dysport is specially created to address one of the most frequent dynamic wrinkles: the vertical frown lines between the eyebrows. Dr. Ben Schultz prefers Dysport for its long duration (up to 4 months) and faster onset (just under a week!). It temporarily blocks signals to the muscle — so the dynamic wrinkle is smoother, but with natural-looking results that don't "freeze" your face. All of Dr. Ben Schultz's patients will receive indivisualized treatments based on their specific anatomy and meds. How Do Dysport Injections Work?
Dysport injections are performed in one of our treatment rooms after your consultation with Dr. Schultz, taking about 15 – 30 minutes. A numbing cream can be requested for application prior to injection; however, Dr. Ben Schultz uses a special distraction device that allows for a near-painless experience. The skin will be thoroughly cleansed, and five well-placed injections will be administered along the brow, followed by a cold compress to minimize bruising and swelling. Following your procedure with Dr. Ben Schultz, you may resume normal tasks, but you should avoid strenuous activities for at least 24 hours.
What to Expect Following Dysport Injections?
Following a Dysport treatment, you will probably have light redness and swelling near the injected area, but this generally will resolve in several days. We advise that you sleep propped up the night of your appointment and still apply a cold pack if necessary. Outcomes are often visible within 1 – 3 days as the appearance of your frown lines is diminished to create a softer, rejuvenated aesthetic. The outcomes should last for around 3 – 4 months, and subsequent treatments can be carried out at Ben Schultz, M.D. in Baltimore, MD to extend your results.
Dysport FAQ
How much does Dysport cost?
The price depends on how much Dysport is required to attain your desired results. In your initial consultation, you will receive a personalized Dysport treatment plan and then offer a cost estimate. Ask if we have any specials on Dysport at Dr. Ben Schultz and which payment methods we take.
What's the difference between Dysport and BOTOX?
Both Dysport and BOTOX are injections that treat dynamic facial wrinkles. Results from Dysport generally become visible faster than BOTOX. Additionally, Dysport results tend to last longer compared to other wrinkle relaxers, and it has a better spread. During your consultation, your injector will help you decide if BOTOX or Dysport is better for your needs and goals.
Should I get Dysport or a wrinkle filler?
Many patients don't know the different uses for injectable wrinkle relaxers, like Dysport and fillers. A wrinkle relaxer corrects dynamic wrinkles, whereas a dermal filler treats static wrinkles. Dynamic wrinkles are created by repetitive movements, for example, smiling, laughing, frowning, and other expressions. Dysport relaxes the creased muscle under the skin to smooth the dynamic wrinkle. Static lines are the result of low skin elasticity, so a dermal filler plumps the area — so it looks even. In your consultation, your injector will listen to your goals to help you decide whether a wrinkle relaxer, a filler, or both will deliver your desired outcome.
Can Dysport be combined with other treatments?
At Ben Schultz, M.D., we offer a number of aesthetic treatments that can be added to complement your Dysport results. Based on your needs and goals, your custom plan might include Dysport injections for dynamic wrinkles, a filler for static wrinkles or volume in your cheeks and lips, as well as a skin treatment. Be honest during your consultation so we can create a plan that will deliver an outcome that leaves you thrilled.
How often should I get Dysport injections?
The results of Dysport may be visible for up to four months. In your consultation, your injector will recommend how often you should return to our office in Baltimore, MD, to sustain your results. You may get treatments more often or further apart after you know how Dysport works on your wrinkles.
